Non Alcoholic Earl Grey Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is the granddaddy of classic cocktails. It’s usually associated with leather-backed chairs and southern lawyers. However, I’ve spruced it up to make it a little bit more feminine, using an elevated alcohol-free whiskey called Lyre’s American Malt and added a unique twist using Earl Grey syrup.

Ingredients

4 oz of Lyre’s American Malt

1 tbsp Earl Grey Syrup

3 oz Earl Grey tea (cooled)

6 dashes of aromatic bitters *bitters have trace amounts of alcohol in them; drop in a few drops of non-alcoholic italian orange bitters in the glass for an alcohol-free option; read our article about bitters here!

To make the syrup in advance (5-8 minutes):

Mix ½ cup of sugar, ¼ cup of water and 1 tbsp of Early Grey tea in a small saucepan. Turn to medium-low heat and stir gently until the sugar is dissolved and it’s just about to simmer. Turn off the heat and let it steep for a few minutes and then strain into a glass jar.

Building the drink:

Combine Earl Grey syrup, tea and bitters in a glass, stirring until well blended. Add a few large ice cubes and then pour American Malt on top. Stir gently for 30 seconds to chill and enjoy!
