A margarita mocktails is exactly what it sounds like. An alcohol-free or non-alcoholic version of a regular margarita, using non-alcoholic spirits or fresh ingredients to mimic the lime, salt, agave and orange combination in a traditional margarita.

Does a margarita mocktail have alcohol in it?

A margarita has a pretty standard ratio of tequila, lime, salt, and an orange liquere. In a margarita mocktail version, we replace the tequila with either a non-alcoholic tequila (0.5% ABV) or something that has agave in it for a completely alcohol-free option. Non-alcoholic tequila is any tequila-style spirit that has 0.5% or less alcohol by volume. You would need 80 shots of a zero-proof tequila to equal one regular drink.

What is a non-alcoholic substitute for tequila in a margarita?

Agave nectar is a syrup made from the blue agave plant. It has a sweet, smoky flavor profile that is reminiscent of tequila which is distilled from the same plant. It makes a good, non-alcoholic substitute for tequila in virgin drinks and mocktails if you don’t want ANY alcohol.
