Fall Mocktail: Non Alcoholic Maple Cinnamon Whiskey Sour

There’s no better combination than maple and cinnamon, a truly Canadian taste that works with everything from oatmeal to pork tenderloin. This mouthwatering, non alcoholic whiskey cocktail will have you wanting doubles and triples….and why not! They’re alcohol-free!

We’re serving this pre-dinner non alcoholic cocktail for our Thanksgiving guests, and pairing it with some delicious roasted cinnamon maple pecans for snacking on. Yum!

This is more than just a mocktail - using non alcoholic bourbon is what takes this to the cocktail level but without the hangover.

Our fan favourite is Free Spirits Spirit of Bourbon non alcoholic bourbon, which is now widely available in Canada through Better Rhodes Canada. Other options include Lyre’s American Malt or Drink Monday, both unique and different so it’s easy to find a favourite among these three.

This recipe involves a dry shake. What’s a dry shake? A dry shake is just shaking up the ingredients without ice, and then adding ice to the shaker and shaking it up again to chill it. This froths up the egg whites so they are light and fluffy, and then chills the mixture.

Note: If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, don’t worry - you can use a mason jar or even a large sippy cup for this recipe. Strain with the lid slightly open so the ice doesn’t fall out.

INGREDIENTS

3 oz. Free Spirits Bourbon or Lyre’s American Malt
1 tbsp maple syrup
Juice from half a lemon
1 tbsp of egg white or aqua faba (liquid from can of chick peas)
1/4 tsp cinnamon + a pinch for garnish

PREPARATION

  1. Shake all the ingredients without ice for about 20 seconds in a cocktail shaker.

  2. Add ice cubes and shake very briefly again for 5 seconds to chill.

  3. Strain into a rocks glass filled with clean ice.

  4. Top with another small pinch of cinnamon or garnish with a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!
