Unleashing Flavor: Alcohol-Free Caesar Mocktail Recipe

Sponsored by Ceders Non Alcoholic Spirits. Recipe and opinions are our own.

When it comes to enjoying a bold and flavorful drink without alcohol, it really doesn't get better than a Caesar mocktail. This recipe is the perfect blend of savory, spicy, and tangy flavors and is one of my beloved brunch favourites. It does a great job of preventing FOMO when everyone else around is having a boozy brunch. It’s also super easy to make, no shaking required, making it simple for at home sipping.

The Caesar: A Canadian Classic with a Twist

The Caesar is an iconic Canadian cocktail known for its savory profile and versatility. Traditionally made with vodka, it’s a cousin to the Bloody Mary but takes on a distinct flavor thanks to the addition of clam juice. Caesars are a favorite brunch drink because their savory, hearty nature pairs beautifully with classic breakfast and lunch dishes, providing a satisfying start to the day. It usually includes vodka or gin, but by substituting Ceder's Wild Non-Alcoholic Spirit, this mocktail version captures some of the essence of the original while keeping it alcohol-free.

Why Ceder’s Wild Non-Alcoholic Spirit?

Ceder's Wild is a premium non-alcoholic spirit from South Africa crafted with 18 rare and exotic botanicals and no artificial ingredients. It’s light, refreshing, and provides the perfect base for a variety of mocktails. With hints of juniper, ginger, and rooibos, this spirit adds depth and complexity that elevates your drink without overpowering the other flavors. It’s part of a series of four non-alcoholic spirits from Ceder’s, all with their own unique flavour profile: Classic, Crisp, Rose and Wild.

We picked Ceder's Wild for this recipe because it’s got a nice peppery hit which perfectly complements the umami-rich tomato and clam juice and tangy pickle brine, creating a drink that’s bold yet balanced.

Luckily for Canadians, you can find it on the shelf at your local grocery store. It’s available at several national chain grocery stores in Canada, and that’s the main reason I turn to it often. In Ontario you can find it at Longo’s, Village Grocer and Summerhill Market in the GTA. For BC. you can find it at Fresh Street Market (they have a few locations) and Gourmet Warehouse. For Albertans, Ceder’s is available at Sunterra and the Italian Centre. Halifax carries it at the Independent Mercantile and Italian Market.

Recipe: Ceder's Wild Non-Alcoholic Caesar Mocktail

This virgin mocktail recipe is so easy to whip up as it can be either stirred in a mixing glass, or built right in the glass. It’s up to you!

One tip with non-alcoholic spirits is to use more of the spirit than you would with a regular cocktail, and less of the competing ingredients. It might seem strange to have a 1:1 ratio of Ceder’s and tomato juice but it helps to bring out the flavours in the zero-proof liquid.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 ounces Ceder's Wild Non-Alcoholic Spirit – The base of this mocktail, Ceder's Wild adds a refreshing botanical flavor with hints of juniper, ginger, and rooibos, offering complexity and depth.

  • 4 ounces tomato clam juice – This savory combination provides the iconic Caesar flavor, balancing umami and tanginess.

  • 2 teaspoons lime juice – A touch of citrus that brightens the drink and adds a fresh tangy note.

  • 1 tablespoon pickle brine – A unique ingredient that lends tanginess and a subtle vinegar kick.

  • 4 heavy dashes hot pepper sauce – Adds the signature heat and spice, perfect for those who enjoy bold flavors.

  • 1 scant teaspoon Worcestershire sauce – This umami-rich sauce enhances the savory depth of the mocktail.

  • 2 teaspoons jalapeño brine (optional, for extra heat) – For those who love a fiery edge, this brine intensifies the spiciness.

  • A few small crumbles of blue cheese - adds a bit of funky/earthy notes to the mix.

  • Pinch of celery salt – A classic Caesar seasoning that ties all the flavors together and enhances the drink's profile.

Rim

  • Celery salt – Creates a savory and slightly salty rim for added flavor in every sip.

  • Chili powder – Adds a hint of spice to the rim, complementing the heat in the drink.

  • Lime wedge – Used to moisten the rim and add a touch of zesty flavor.

Garnish

  • Pickled bean – Adds crunch and a tangy flavor that complements the drink.

  • Olives - can’t go wrong with a classic mocktail garnish like an olive.

  • Celery stalk – A traditional garnish that provides a fresh, crisp bite.

  • Piece of blue cheese – For an unexpected snack, this rich and creamy addition adds a gourmet touch.

PREPARATION

Prepare the Rim:

    • Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass.

    • Combine celery salt and chili powder on a small plate, then gently roll the rim of the glass in the mixture to coat it evenly.

Tips for the Perfect Mocktail

1. Use Quality Ingredients

The flavors in a Caesar mocktail rely heavily on the quality of the ingredients. Opt for fresh lime juice, high-quality tomato and clam juice, and brines that are free of additives. These small details can make a significant difference in the final taste.

2. Customize the Spice Level

This recipe is designed to have a bold kick, but you can easily adjust the spice level to suit your preference. Reduce the hot pepper sauce or skip the jalapeño brine for a milder version, or go all-in for an extra fiery mocktail.

3. Experiment with Garnishes

Garnishes not only add visual appeal but also enhance the flavor. You can swap the pickled bean for a pickled asparagus spear or replace the blue cheese with a stuffed olive. The possibilities are endless, so have fun customizing your drink.
