/A new twist on a classic from Scotland’s only distilled non-alcoholic spirit Feragaia
Recipe sponsored by Drink Better
Sometimes a classic is a classic, but sometimes you need to turn it on its head and make something new. Feragaia is an alcohol-free spirit from Scotland, and in a cheeky nod to the Scots, here’s a new non-alcoholic cocktail that exemplifies its strength and its beauty.
What is Feragaia?
Feragaia is a handcrafted, small batch, alcohol-free spirit distilled in Scotland. It’s made from 14 land and see botanicals and minerals directly sourced from one of the world’s most breathtaking places. At 0.0% ABV, Feragaia does not use alcohol in its process making this a truly alcohol-free option.
What does Feragaia taste like?
Feragaia is almost like an aperitif. It’s golden in colour, and has bright herbal and citrus notes, balanced with some deeper smokier notes and a very slight bitter tease. It’s not trying to be a counterpart to any alcoholic spirit, rather it’s its own liquid. The easiest way to try Feragaia is with tonic water or even soda water, where its complexity really shines. It works in a complicated non-alcoholic cocktail too, but is at its best in simple mixtures with a splash of citrus.
Feragaia is also zero-sugar, which makes it a great option for anyone looking for low-sugar mocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails.
Introducing the Fife 75 non-alcoholic cocktail
Feragaia is fragrant and bright, which makes it a perfect pairing in the classic French 75 cocktail. It’s also a nod to one of the oldest political alliances in Europe, the Auld Alliance formed between Scotland and France in 1295. So basically, they’re like childhood friends.
A French 75 is usually made with gin, lemon juice and simple syrup shaken in a cocktail shaker and topped with champagne. Feragaia is slightly fragile, which is why we’re choosing to stir it in the glass instead of shake it. To keep this lower sugar, we’re not adding simple syrup as the non-alcoholic sparkling wine often has added sugar.
In this recipe, the Feragaia aromatics blend perfectly with the hint of lemon juice and a crisp non-alcoholic sparkling wine. It’s so elegant and cheeky, dare we say this is your new Friday night drink?
